The Mukuru Kwa Njenga area of Nairobi has been gripped by tragedy as the community grapples with the shocking discovery of multiple bodies at the Kware dumpsite.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has been at the forefront, urging calm and calling for support for the affected families.

As of the latest reports, authorities have retrieved eight bodies and 12 body parts from the dumpsite, which have been transported to the City Mortuary for identification and further investigation.

The grim discovery has sent shockwaves through the local community and sparked an urgent response from government officials and law enforcement agencies.

Governor Sakaja, in a heartfelt statement, expressed deep condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

He assured them that the county government stands ready to provide all necessary support, including psychological counseling, once the identities of the deceased are confirmed.

This support aims to help the families cope with the emotional and practical challenges arising from such a tragic event.

However, amidst the efforts to retrieve the bodies and provide support, tensions escalated when altercations occurred between local residents and law enforcement officers at the scene.

Reports indicate that police resorted to using tear gas to disperse crowds, which hindered the retrieval operations and escalated an already tense situation.

Governor Sakaja condemned the use of force, emphasizing the need for restraint and collaboration between the community and law enforcement agencies.

He called for a peaceful and cooperative approach to ensure that the retrieval and investigation processes proceed smoothly and without further disruption.

The Governor also highlighted the importance of a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding these deaths.

He called upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite their efforts and allocate adequate resources to uncover the truth.

Sakaja emphasized that justice must be served for the victims and their families, and those responsible for these heinous acts must be held accountable under the law.

In response to the escalating tensions, Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja took decisive action by ordering the immediate transfer of all officers from the Kware Police Station.

This move aims to facilitate an impartial investigation and restore public trust in the police force's commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the safety of all citizens.

Meanwhile, the local community has shown remarkable resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity.

Residents have actively assisted in the retrieval efforts, working alongside authorities despite the challenging conditions and emotional strain.

Their courageous efforts have been instrumental in helping to locate and recover the bodies, underscoring the importance of community unity and support during times of crisis.

President William Ruto has also weighed in on the tragic events, pledging government support and urging security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for the deaths.

He reassured the public that the government is fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Kenyans, particularly in vulnerable communities like Mukuru Kwa Njenga.
