Stellah Kawira, residing in Kayole, Nairobi, recounted the harrowing incident that occurred on Tuesday, June 9, when her 10-year-old child, a Grade 5 student, disappeared while walking home from school.
"We were told the ferocious floods carried away the kid," Kawira recounted tearfully in an interview with Citizen TV Kenya. "Since then, we have been searching tirelessly, day and night, but our efforts have been in vain.
Despite this, we have not lost hope and continue to appeal for any assistance to help us find our child." The community in Kayole has rallied around Kawira, with volunteers joining in the search efforts despite the challenging conditions exacerbated by inadequate drainage systems.
Many residents have blamed incomplete road construction for the poor drainage, which they claim worsens flooding in the area during heavy rains.
Social media has also become a platform for support and solidarity, with Kenyans expressing their sympathy and offering prayers for the safe return of the missing child. Esther Kimani commented, "So sad," while Jessica Ajiambos added, "I feel your pain, sorry."
