Douglas Kanja Kirocho was appointed deputy inspector general on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 FILE

The Inspector General (IG) of Police, Douglas Kanja Kirocho, has transferred all police officers stationed at Kware Police Station.

This action comes amid ongoing investigations into the gruesome killings in Mukuru, where multiple mutilated female bodies were discovered.

The Mukuru killings have shocked the nation. A series of disturbing discoveries were made at an abandoned quarry-turned-dumpsite in Mukuru.

The bodies, wrapped in polythene bags and sacks tied with ropes, were found mutilated in a manner that has raised serious concerns about the nature of these crimes.

As of Saturday noon, the total number of recovered bodies had risen to 14, with all identified victims being female.

On Sunday, the IG announced the transfer of all officers from Kware Police Station to facilitate a thorough and unbiased investigation.

"To ensure fair and unbiased investigations, I have moved the officers from Kware Police Station," he stated.

This move is intended to provide investigators with the necessary space and freedom to conduct their work without any potential interference or bias.

Douglas Kanja, appointed as the deputy inspector general on April 12, 2023, has emphasized his commitment to justice and transparency.

He reassured the public that the police force, in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and other security agencies, is working diligently to uncover the truth behind these heinous crimes. The investigation is expected to be concluded within 21 days.

The gravity of the situation prompted President William Ruto to take immediate action. Following the discoveries, he directed homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch a comprehensive investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

"In Nairobi, about 9 bodies have been found, and all of them are female. The government is still investigating the matter," President Ruto stated.

President Ruto condemned the killings, stating that they were a gross violation of the Constitution and the bill of human rights.

He has called for swift action to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. "I have directed the police and all those involved, including the DCI and homicide detectives, to investigate what happened," he reiterated.

The Mukuru killings have sparked widespread outrage and concern among Kenyans. The community is demanding answers and justice for the victims.

The transfer of the Kware Police Station officers is seen as a step towards ensuring a fair and thorough investigation, free from any potential biases or conflicts of interest.

Inspector General Douglas Kanja has expressed his commitment to transparency and justice throughout the investigation process.

"In this difficult time, we stand with the community and remain committed to uncovering the truth and bringing those responsible to justice," he stated.

The investigation into the Mukuru killings is being carried out in collaboration with several security agencies.

The IG emphasized that the police service and the ODPP are working tirelessly to conclude the investigations within the stipulated 21-day period.

"Our officers, in collaboration with the ODPP, are working tirelessly to conclude the investigations within 21 days," he assured the public.
