A primary school teacher faces serious charges after allegedly inflicting extreme corporal punishment on a student in a shocking case from Nyamira County.

Jackson Marocha, a teacher at Riang'ombe Primary School, has been charged with attempted murder following a brutal incident involving a nine-year-old pupil.

The incident reportedly took place in 2023 when the young student was punished for losing his school uniform. According to reports, Marocha used a plastic pipe to cane the boy 104 times.

The severe beating left the child with critical injuries, including a dangerous blood clot in his backside. The injuries were so severe that there was a real concern that the clot could travel to his heart, potentially causing a fatal blockage.

After the beating, Marocha attempted to conceal his actions by locking the injured student in a dormitory.

The child, severely hurt and having difficulty sitting due to the injuries, was later discovered and taken to Nyamira County Referral Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Medical professionals were concerned about the possibility of internal damage and the risk of complications from the blood clot.

The teacher's attempt to hide the incident failed as local authorities, along with police and community officials, launched a coordinated effort to locate and arrest Marocha. He was eventually apprehended in March 2023 after disappearing from the school.

The case has drawn significant attention from the public and media.

The prosecution has emphasized the severity of the injuries and the risks involved, noting that the blood clot could have been fatal if it had reached the child's heart.

The charges against Marocha are serious, and he is currently awaiting further court proceedings.

In a related development, a separate incident involving students and parents at Otok Secondary School in Karachuonyo constituency has also made headlines.

There, a group of angry parents protested against the Ministry of Education’s decision to change the school's principal.

The situation escalated when the students, armed with whips and batons, confronted the protesting parents, resulting in physical altercations and injuries.

The conflict ended with the students forcing the parents to leave the school premises.
