“Sack All CSs, PSs Before Thursday, We Will Visit State House,” Eric Omondi Tells President Ruto

Eric Omondi, a prominent figure in Kenya's entertainment industry, has recently emerged as a vocal advocate for political change in the country.

Known primarily for his comedic talents, Omondi has now taken on the role of an activist, demanding significant reforms within the Kenyan government.

The catalyst for Omondi's transformation from comedian to activist stems from deep-seated frustrations shared by many Kenyans regarding governance issues and perceived lack of accountability among political leaders.

In a video message posted on his social media platforms on July 8, 2024, Omondi issued a compelling ultimatum to President William Ruto: dismiss all Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and heads of parastatals by July 11, 2024, or face public scrutiny.

"Mr. President, I have been told that you are a very prayerful man. This is the word of the Lord for you. Please fire all cabinet secretaries before Thursday. Please fire all principal secretaries.

Please fire all parastatal heads. Kenyans have lost all faith in the government," Omondi declared passionately.

This bold call to action was accompanied by plans for a peaceful demonstration at State House, scheduled for the same day, where Omondi intended to be joined by hundreds of supporters dressed in white.

Among these supporters were women from local markets, motorcycle taxi riders, and young people, symbolizing a cross-section of Kenyan society united in their demand for change.

Omondi's activism did not emerge in isolation. It follows a series of nationwide protests against the Finance Bill 2024, which sparked public outrage and widespread discontent, particularly among the youth.

The bill, which was controversially passed despite opposition from many quarters, including Omondi and his supporters, exacerbated existing grievances over economic policies and governance practices.

The comedian-turned-activist's journey into political advocacy was further underscored by his arrest during the earlier protests outside Parliament.

Clad in red and riding a horse, Omondi led demonstrators chanting slogans against the Finance Bill 2024 and advocating for greater transparency and accountability in government decision-making.

However, Omondi's arrest did not deter him. Instead, it galvanized his resolve to challenge the status quo and push for meaningful reforms.

His actions resonated deeply with a population increasingly disillusioned with political elites perceived as out of touch with the daily struggles of ordinary Kenyans.

The significance of Omondi's activism lies not only in his celebrity status but also in his ability to mobilize grassroots support and amplify the voices of those traditionally marginalized in political discourse.

By aligning himself with market vendors, motorcycle operators, and young people, Omondi seeks to bridge the gap between entertainment and activism, using his platform to advocate for issues that directly affect everyday Kenyans.

Through his active presence on platforms like Instagram and Twitter, Omondi has been able to bypass traditional media channels and directly engage with his audience, rallying support for his cause and garnering widespread attention both domestically and internationally.

As the Thursday deadline approaches, all eyes are on President William Ruto's response to Omondi's demands.

The outcome of this standoff could potentially set a precedent for how the Kenyan government addresses citizen activism and addresses pressing concerns about governance and leadership.
