This tragic situation has raised serious concerns and highlighted unresolved issues surrounding Sniper’s murder. Daniel Muthiani, affectionately known as Sniper, was a well-known blogger from Meru County.
He vanished under mysterious circumstances after reportedly being called to the residence of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
His body was later found, but the exact details of his death remain clouded in controversy. According to his family, Sniper’s body has been withheld by the authorities.
His wife, Irene Kawira Kamenchu, and his mother, Anne Kanjeru, have been waiting for months to lay him to rest.
They claim that not only has his body not been returned to them, but they have also not received any of the financial contributions that were reportedly made to support them.
In an interview, Anne Kanjeru revealed that since Sniper's death, the family has been living in constant fear.
She reported that they have had disturbing dreams about Sniper and that his spirit seems to be lingering around their home.
Kanjeru expressed her frustration and sorrow, stating that they are still waiting for justice and have not been able to properly mourn their loved one.
"I have never smiled since his death," Kanjeru said. She explained that the family has been left in a state of constant distress, as they are unable to bury Sniper due to ongoing issues.
She even mentioned that if given the body, she would dig the grave herself. Irene Kawira Kamenchu, Sniper’s widow, has been vocal about her struggles since her husband’s death.
She claims that she has received threats and that her life has been in danger. Despite promises of protection, she says that no security has been provided to her.
Kamenchu also lamented that she never received the house that was supposedly promised by Governor Mwangaza.
She described her life as extremely difficult and expressed her frustration at the lack of support from those who initially offered help. Her children, she says, are constantly asking questions she cannot answer, adding to her anguish.
"This is justice delayed; we are burying him, but what have we seen?" Kamenchu stated. "The person who called him is busy posting on TikTok; the people who killed him are free."
The family's refusal to bury Sniper until justice is served highlights their determination to hold those responsible accountable.
They have been waiting for legal proceedings to bring the perpetrators to justice. Although ten suspects have been arrested in connection with Sniper's murder, his elder brother, Julius Muthee, asserts that the main individuals who planned and financed the crime remain at large.
The family’s quest for justice has caused them to live in fear, and they have reportedly been forced to leave their homes due to threats. They are demanding that the authorities address their concerns and help them finally lay Sniper to rest.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki disclosed that Sniper was abducted upon arriving in Meru town and was driven toward the Mutonga River.
A postmortem revealed that he was strangled. The authorities have arrested two individuals, including Murangiri Kenneth Guantai, a police officer and brother of Governor Kawira Mwangaza, and Vincent Mureithi, in connection with the murder.
Despite these arrests, the family remains dissatisfied, feeling that justice has not been fully served. They are calling for a thorough investigation and the arrest of all individuals involved in orchestrating and financing the murder.
