Excitement Grows in Nyanza Ahead of Ruto's Mega Visit to Raila's Backyard With Bags Of Goodies Next Week

Nyanza is buzzing with excitement as President William Ruto prepares for his much-anticipated visit next week.

This will be Ruto's most significant trip to the Luo Nyanza region, a place known for its strong support of his political rival, Raila Odinga.

The President’s visit will cover several counties, including Kisumu, Migori, Siaya, and Homa Bay. Ruto’s trip, starting on Wednesday, is expected to boost his influence in the region, which has traditionally backed Odinga.

This visit comes after Ruto included key leaders from Nyanza in his government, marking a new chapter in his relationship with the area.

During his visit, President Ruto plans to launch a number of development projects. In Migori County, he will unveil the Kuja Irrigation Scheme and a housing project in Kuria. These projects aim to improve agriculture and living conditions for local residents.

In Homa Bay, Ruto will introduce the Oyus Water Project and announce extra funds for expanding electricity access in rural areas through the last-mile connectivity program. These initiatives are intended to provide better water supply and increase electricity availability for homes and businesses.

Kisumu County will see significant infrastructure upgrades during the visit. Ruto will launch the Miwani-Mamboleo Road, which is expected to enhance transportation in the region.

Additionally, he will unveil the Sh19 billion Sondu-Soin Dam, a crucial project for improving water supply. Ruto will also open a new ring road around Lake Victoria, aimed at boosting local trade and tourism.

A major highlight of the visit will be Ruto’s formal endorsement of Raila Odinga's candidacy for the African Union Commission chairperson.

This endorsement is seen as a strategic move to strengthen relations with Odinga and could have a significant impact on the political dynamics in Nyanza.

Ruto will also attend homecoming ceremonies for two new Cabinet Secretaries from the region: Opiyo Wandayi, the Energy and Petroleum CS, and John Mbadi, the National Treasury CS.

Their appointments reflect Ruto’s effort to build a diverse government and address the needs of various regions.

This visit is part of President Ruto's broader strategy to revive stalled projects and start new developments across Kenya. He has already toured other regions, including the Coast, Mount Kenya, and Gusii, and plans to visit Western Kenya soon.

Ruto’s trip to Nyanza is particularly noteworthy as it represents a shift in relations between the President and a region that has been closely aligned with Raila Odinga.
