"I'm The One Who Started It" TikToker Nyako Accuses Eric Omondi Of Stealing His Fundraising Idea To Help The Needy

Recently, a heated dispute has erupted between TikTok star Nyako and comedian Eric Omondi. The argument centers around who originally started the idea of using online platforms to raise funds for people in need.

The controversy has drawn significant attention, with both Nyako and Eric defending their positions. Nyako, who is currently in Kenya, has publicly accused Eric Omondi of copying her concept of helping the less fortunate through online fundraising.

During a live session on TikTok, Nyako claimed that she was the pioneer of this method and that Eric Omondi’s recent charitable efforts were merely a replication of her idea.

Nyako's journey in charitable fundraising began with her significant online presence. She has used her platform to support various individuals in distress, raising substantial amounts of money for them.

One notable instance was in September 2023 when she helped raise KSh 500,000 for former Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua, who needed medical treatment.

Nyako has also been involved in other charitable activities, such as assisting the late Brian Chira and paying his rent until he was stable.

She prides herself on being among the first to utilize social media to support those in need and believes her approach was unique.

During her live TikTok session, Nyako expressed frustration over what she sees as Eric Omondi’s appropriation of her idea. She argued that no one in Kenya had used social media for such purposes before her.

Nyako's tone was defiant as she vowed to continue her fundraising efforts and hinted at a possible return to Kenya with aspirations of running for a political position.

She suggested that her previous success and public support would make her a strong contender, implying that she could secure a political role effortlessly.

Eric Omondi, however, has strongly contested Nyako's claims. In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Eric argued that the concept of helping others through fundraising has existed long before Nyako's time.

He shared a personal story from his own life to illustrate this point. Eric recalled a fundraiser organized by a fellow student during his time at Daystar University.

This fundraiser was meant to support him in continuing his education, demonstrating that charitable acts and fundraising have been part of society for a long time.

Eric's response was clear: he does not believe that Nyako can claim ownership of the idea of using social media for charity. He stressed that helping others is a universal practice that predates any recent attempts to formalize it online.

According to Eric, the concept of fundraising for those in need is as old as time itself and is not something that can be monopolized by any single individual.

The disagreement between Nyako and Eric Omondi has sparked a lively discussion on social media. Many users have weighed in with their opinions, creating a range of reactions.

Some people support Nyako, arguing that she was indeed among the first to use her social media influence for charitable causes in Kenya. They believe that her efforts should be recognized and that Eric’s actions might have been influenced by her example.

On the other hand, there are those who side with Eric, suggesting that Nyako’s claims of originality are overstated.

They argue that charitable work has been part of human culture for centuries and that no single person can lay exclusive claim to the concept of online fundraising for social causes.

In addition to the dispute over fundraising, Nyako’s recent comments about her potential political ambitions have added another layer to the story.

Nyako has hinted at a future in politics, suggesting that she could easily win a political seat if she decided to run. This has led to further speculation about her intentions and how her charitable work might influence her political career.

The situation has also drawn comments from the public about Nyako’s attitude and approach. Some social media users have criticized her for seeming to demand recognition and exclusivity for her charitable efforts.

They argue that the goal should be to help as many people as possible, regardless of who gets credit for the idea. Similarly, Eric Omondi has faced his share of public scrutiny.

His comments have led some to question his motives and the authenticity of his charitable activities. Critics have suggested that Eric’s response might be an attempt to downplay Nyako’s contributions and assert his own role in the broader context of charity.
