The recent death of George Gerry Mboya, a Kenyan man living in the United States, has shocked many after his emotional plea for help went viral on social media.
George claimed to be the youngest son of Tom Mboya, one of Kenya's most celebrated politicians.
George had been living in the United States, where he faced serious health challenges. For six months, he was admitted to Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Kansas, battling liver failure.
The illness left him weak and in need of prolonged medical care. Despite the severity of his condition, George was eventually discharged from the hospital, but what awaited him outside was a harsh reality—he had nowhere to go.
In a video that surfaced online, George appeared visibly sick, speaking with slurred speech. He was clearly distressed as he shared his story with the world.
"I am Tom Mboya’s youngest son," he said, his voice filled with despair. He explained how he had lost everything, including his home, and was struggling to survive.
His phone had been disconnected because he could no longer afford to pay the bills, leaving him isolated from potential help.
After being released from the hospital, George found himself homeless. With no place to stay, he was forced to rely on the kindness of strangers.
A Good Samaritan, moved by George’s plight, gave him some money so he could spend a night in a motel.
Despite this small act of kindness, George’s situation remained dire. The video showed a man who was deeply troubled, grappling with the weight of his circumstances.
Tragically, just days after the video was shared, George was found dead on July 31, 2024. The news of his death brought an outpouring of grief from those who had seen his video and were touched by his story.
His body was cremated on August 9, and his ashes are set to be brought back to Kenya, where his family will hold a burial service.
However, after his death, it was clarified that George was not actually Tom Mboya’s son.
According to Jarunda Jaluth Mambobiad, who consulted with the Mboya family, George was suffering from depression, which may have contributed to his tragic end.
The revelation that he was not Tom Mboya’s son does not diminish the sadness of his story; instead.
Depression is a serious condition that affects millions of people worldwide, and George’s story is a stark reminder of the need for mental health support and awareness.
His struggles with illness, homelessness, and depression paint a painful picture of the challenges many people endure in silence.
The video he shared was a cry for help, one that, unfortunately, came too late to save his life.
