Kisumu: Call For Justice As Pregnant Mum Collapses, Dies In Church Under Unclear Circumstances

A pregnant woman, Florence Akinyi Aoko, tragically passed away under mysterious circumstances at a church in Nyameta, Kisumu County.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, August 18, 2024, has raised more questions than answers, leaving her grieving family desperately seeking clarity and justice.

Florence Akinyi Aoko, 29, was known to be staying with her partner at the church in Nyameta, which is located near Uzima University College.

The couple had reportedly been living there for some time, with Akinyi being heavily pregnant at the time of her untimely death. The circumstances surrounding her passing remain unclear, with multiple conflicting accounts coming from those who were present at the scene.

The news of Akinyi's death was first relayed to her family by a phone call at 8:00 AM on that fateful Sunday. Her uncle, Tom Langa, received the call but was given no specific details regarding the cause of death.

The lack of information and the subsequent conflicting reports have only deepened the family's anguish.

According to various accounts from witnesses at the scene, the exact circumstances of Akinyi's death are murky and inconsistent.

Some individuals claimed that she was electrocuted by a live electric wire while mopping the church. This version of events suggests that Akinyi may have accidentally come into contact with the wire while cleaning, leading to a fatal electric shock.

However, others in the church dispute this claim, stating that the cleaning had been completed the previous evening, making it unlikely that she was mopping at the time of her death.

Another version of the story suggests that Akinyi was electrocuted by a microphone while leading a praise session.

It is alleged that the microphone might have had a faulty connection, causing it to deliver a deadly shock when she touched it. This theory has also raised doubts among some, as no definitive evidence has been provided to substantiate it.

Adding to the family's distress is the unresponsiveness of Akinyi's partner since the incident occurred.

Despite multiple attempts to reach him, his phone remains off, leaving the family in the dark about what truly transpired. This lack of communication has only fueled suspicions and concerns about the circumstances leading to Akinyi's death.

For Akinyi's family, the situation is not only tragic but also deeply frustrating. As they mourn the loss of their beloved daughter and the unborn child she was carrying, they are left with more questions than answers.

The conflicting reports from witnesses have made it impossible for the family to come to terms with her sudden demise. "We are deeply troubled by the conflicting stories we are hearing," said Tom Langa, Akinyi's uncle.

"One person says she was electrocuted while mopping, another says it was a microphone, but none of these accounts add up. We just want to know the truth about how she died."

Langa also expressed concern about the condition of Akinyi's unborn child, who, according to him, cannot be preserved in her current state.

This adds another layer of urgency and heartbreak to an already devastating situation. The family is determined to find out how a pregnant woman could die in such a public setting without a clear explanation.

The incident has attracted the attention of local authorities, who have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding Akinyi's death.

The police from Dago Police Post were alerted shortly after the family was notified and quickly arrived at the scene to conduct an initial investigation.

They later transported Akinyi's body to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination, which is expected to shed light on the exact cause of death.

The investigating officer, identified only as Kinywa, has so far been unavailable for comment, leaving the family and the public in suspense as they await the results of the postmortem.

The community in Nyameta, like Akinyi's family, has been left shocked and saddened by the incident. Many are struggling to come to terms with the fact that a young, expectant mother could lose her life in such a mysterious and tragic manner.

Local residents who knew Akinyi have expressed their sorrow and disbelief, with some calling for a thorough investigation to ensure that the truth is uncovered.

"This is a very sad day for all of us," said a local resident who wished to remain anonymous. "We hope that the authorities will get to the bottom of this and provide answers to the family."

As the investigation continues, Akinyi's family is not only seeking answers but also justice. They are calling on the authorities to conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation to determine the exact cause of death and to hold those responsible accountable.

"We want justice for Akinyi and her unborn child," said Langa. "No family should have to go through what we are going through right now. We need to know what happened, and we need to make sure that this doesn't happen to anyone else."
