Man Allegedly Burns Parents' House Over Ksh1,500 Debt in Bomet

A man has reportedly set his parents' house on fire following a dispute over a debt of Ksh1,500 in a disturbing incident in Konoin, Bomet County.

The event took place in the Cheptabach sub-location, and the suspect, Peter Cheruiyot, who is also known by the alias Tito, is currently being sought by local authorities.

The conflict that led to this drastic action began over a relatively small sum of money. Tito was reportedly upset about a debt his mother owed to his father.

The financial disagreement escalated to a point where Tito allegedly decided to set the family home ablaze, resulting in significant damage.

The fire destroyed the house completely, leaving nothing but ashes. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and the family members are safe.

However, the destruction of their home and personal belongings has left the Tonui family in a difficult situation.

The exact value of the lost household items is still being assessed, but the emotional and financial toll is undoubtedly substantial.

Cheptabach sub-location's Assistant Chief, Mr. Kipkurui Tonui, expressed his shock at the incident.

He underscored the serious nature of the situation, emphasizing that resorting to violence over financial disputes can lead to devastating consequences.

"This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of resolving disputes peacefully and the severe repercussions of choosing violence," Mr. Tonui remarked.

Priscilla Tonui, Tito’s mother, has publicly shared her devastation over her son's actions. She is grappling with both the loss of her home and the betrayal by a family member.

Her distress is compounded by the realization that a minor financial disagreement led to such an extreme outcome.

The local police have launched an investigation into the fire and are actively searching for Peter Cheruiyot.

Authorities are urging anyone who might have information about Tito’s whereabouts to come forward.

The search for Tito continues as the police work to bring him to justice and understand the full circumstances behind the fire.
