A family from Dandora, Nairobi County, is living in agony as they continue to search for their beloved son, Sean Iregi, who went missing eight years ago.
Sean, who is autistic and non-verbal, disappeared on August 14, 2016, from their home. Despite many years passing, his family has not given up hope and continues to look for him with the help of various organizations and the community.
Sean’s disappearance has been particularly challenging for his family because he cannot speak, making it harder for him to communicate if found by strangers.
His mother recalls the day he went missing with a heavy heart, saying, "Sean was playing outside like any other day. We looked away for just a moment, and he was gone. It's been our worst nightmare."
The family has been working closely with the Missing Child Organisation, a group dedicated to finding missing children and reuniting them with their families.
This year, the organisation used an age progression technique to create an updated image of Sean, showing what he might look like now at age 16.
This method helps in updating the identification photos of people who have been missing for a long time, making it easier to recognize them as they grow older.
Age progression involves studying facial growth patterns, changes in facial fat distribution, and other characteristics.
It also considers family traits, using photos of close relatives to make the new images as accurate as possible.
The Italian Missing Children Institute assisted in creating Sean's age progression photo, providing his family with a new glimmer of hope.
The updated image of Sean has been widely shared on social media and other platforms by the Missing Child Organisation.
They hope that someone might recognize him and provide information leading to his whereabouts.
The organisation stated on Twitter, "Over the years, we have kept the alert active to continue our search and trace efforts. This year, we have done an age progression for Sean's case file, thanks to the Italian Missing Children Institute."
Sean was last seen in the Dandora Phase 2, Cinema Area. Despite numerous search efforts, no concrete leads have been found.
His family continues to appeal to the public for any information that could help bring Sean home. They urge anyone who might have seen him or has any information to contact them at 0737966370.
The community in Dandora has been supportive, joining in the search and spreading awareness about Sean’s disappearance.
Local groups and schools have also been involved, keeping an eye out and informing new residents about the missing boy.
The sense of community and collective effort has provided some solace to Sean’s family, even as they grapple with the pain of his absence.
