In Nakuru, a suspected serial killer, Ezekiel Sakwa Mwangi, has been ordered to stay in jail for 30 days as police work to complete their investigation.
Mwangi is accused of murdering three women and a young girl. The court’s decision gives the police more time to gather evidence and finalize their case against him.
Mwangi was arrested in the Ngata area of Rongai Sub-County two days ago. According to the prosecution, led by Peninah Owanda, investigators need extra time to collect detailed forensic information.
Owanda told the court that the detectives are still working to gather all necessary details about Mwangi and his alleged victims.
Molo Senior Principal Magistrate Elena Gathoni agreed to the request from the prosecution. She allowed the extension of Mwangi’s detention to ensure that the investigation can be thoroughly completed.
Mwangi will remain at Menengai Police Station until his case is reviewed again on September 19. At that time, formal charges against him are expected to be presented.
Mwangi faces serious charges. He is alleged to have killed his victims in brutal ways. Reports suggest that he not only murdered them but also sexually abused and tortured them before killing them.
The bodies of the victims were discovered in various locations, including bushes and maize fields, in Rongai and other parts of Nakuru County. Each victim was found in different places and on different dates, indicating a pattern of deliberate and violent behavior.
The arrest has caused a stir in the community, which is deeply concerned about the nature of these crimes. The severity of the allegations and the gruesome details of the killings have shocked local residents. The investigation is critical in ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
