In United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Cleophas Malala, the recently ousted Secretary General of the party, has fired back at his successor, Hassan Omar.
Cleophas Malala's exit from his position as UDA Secretary General was a significant shake-up in the party.
The changes within the party leadership have not only attracted public attention but also ignited fierce debates among party members.
Following Malala’s removal, Hassan Omar was appointed as the new Secretary General. However, the transition has been far from smooth, with accusations and counterclaims surfacing in the wake of the leadership shift.
Hassan Omar, a former Mombasa gubernatorial candidate and the new UDA Secretary General, recently dismissed Malala's claims of an internal coup within the party.
Omar characterized Malala’s allegations as unfounded and suggested that Malala's removal was justified due to alleged incompetence. This response did not sit well with Malala, who wasted no time in addressing the comments.
In a statement released hours after Omar’s defense, Malala rebuked Omar’s handling of the situation. He described Omar’s efforts to justify the leadership changes and defend those responsible for his ouster as “juvenile.”
According to Malala, Omar’s remarks failed to address the core issues at hand and instead attempted to deflect from the serious accusations he had raised.
Malala has been vocal about the circumstances surrounding his removal. He has accused National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, who also serves as UDA Chairperson, of orchestrating his downfall.
Malala alleges that these leaders were behind a plot to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, an accusation that has further fueled the ongoing political drama.
In his recent statement, Malala emphasized that he possesses 17 additional serious accusations against those he claims were involved in the internal coup.
He warned that these revelations would have severe consequences for Omar and the others implicated. Malala has made it clear that he intends to present these accusations to the UDA party’s Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC).
His aim is to expose what he describes as intentional mismanagement within the party and to force those involved to vacate their positions.
Malala's criticism of Omar extended to questioning his legal expertise. Omar, who has a background in law and activism, has defended the legality of Malala’s removal.
However, Malala has challenged Omar’s understanding of the Political Parties Act, specifically section 20, which outlines the procedures for removing party officials.
Malala argued that Omar's reaction was not only misleading but also indicative of panic among those involved in the alleged coup.
The exchange between Malala and Omar reflects a broader struggle within the UDA. The party, which is part of Kenya’s ruling coalition, has been grappling with internal conflicts and leadership disputes.
The public nature of these disputes has intensified the scrutiny on UDA’s internal affairs and its leadership.
The UDA, a prominent political party in Kenya, was founded to support President William Ruto's presidential bid. The party’s internal dynamics have significant implications for the country's political landscape.
As such, the ongoing feud between Malala and Omar, and the allegations of internal plotting, are not just matters of party politics but are also closely watched by the public and other political stakeholders.
