Two Dead in High-Speed Collision Involving Police Vehicle on Mombasa Road

In a tragic accident on Mombasa Road, a police vehicle and an FRR Isuzu Canter were involved in a severe collision that resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to three others. 

The accident occurred on the morning of August 28, 2024, near the Maji ya Chumvi area in Mariakani.

According to preliminary reports from the police, the crash happened when a 37-year-old man, driving a police Land Cruiser, attempted to overtake other vehicles at high speed. 

The Land Cruiser was on its way to Nairobi, where it was supposed to be handed over to a new owner. 

Alongside the driver, a 29-year-old female passenger was also in the vehicle. Both the driver and the passenger died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.

The FRR Isuzu Canter, which was involved in the accident, was also significantly damaged. The crash caused serious injuries to three other people, who were traveling in the Canter at the time. 

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured and secure the area. The wounded individuals were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, though their conditions have not been detailed in the initial reports.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on the circumstances that led to the high-speed overtaking maneuver. 

The scene of the accident was recorded, and the bodies of the deceased have been transported to the Coast General Hospital for post-mortem examinations. This will help determine the exact causes of death and provide further insights into the accident.

Recent months have seen a worrying increase in road accidents across Kenya, with many resulting in fatalities and serious injuries.
