Dr. Michael Ndonye, a lecturer at Kabarak University, has made bold predictions about Deputy President William Ruto's future.
He claims that if the Supreme Court confirms Ruto's election, he may not last in office beyond 2027.
Ndonye is known for accurately predicting Raila Odinga’s defeat in the 2022 presidential election, and his latest insights are attracting significant attention.
In his recent article published in The Standard, Dr. Ndonye emphasized that after President Uhuru Kenyatta stepped down, Ruto was expected to hold the presidency for just one term.
He warned that the same hustlers who initially supported Ruto could turn against him if he fails to deliver on their expectations.
Ndonye pointed out that Mount Kenya voters were unhappy with the Jubilee government, which is why they chose Ruto over their own son, Uhuru Kenyatta.
If Ruto’s administration does not meet the needs of these voters, Ndonye believes they will not hesitate to seek a new leader in the next elections.
Dr. Ndonye noted that Mount Kenya is likely to present a presidential candidate in 2027. If it's not Uhuru Kenyatta's successor, a new and capable candidate will emerge.
He warned Ruto that he should anticipate challenges from this political stronghold, which he described as a significant player on the political chessboard.
One of Ndonye's main criticisms of Ruto is his handling of relationships with lawmakers. He believes that Ruto has made mistakes in trying to secure support among parliament members.
Ndonye mentioned that Ruto has threatened to quit if his demands are not met, which could alienate his allies. He warned that "friends with power will quickly turn against you," as jealousy may arise when they feel they can compete for leadership.
To succeed, Ndonye suggested that Ruto should learn from President Uhuru Kenyatta, who effectively managed to control dissent within his ranks by forging alliances with opposition parties like ODM and Wiper.
By doing so, Kenyatta was able to mitigate the mutiny from the Tangatanga MPs. Ndonye believes that having an opposing group at least as powerful as your kingmaker can be advantageous, as it provides a reliable support base when necessary.
The political landscape in Kenya is always changing, and Dr. Ndonye's predictions could hold weight as the 2027 elections approach.
His previous accuracy in forecasting the outcome of the 2022 elections has made many people take notice of his latest comments. As frustrations grow among voters, particularly in Mount Kenya, Ruto's leadership could be tested in the coming years.
