Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly expressed his frustration regarding what he describes as political harassment from the current administration.
He claims that his situation is worse than what President William Ruto experienced during his own time as Deputy President. Gachagua’s remarks come amid rising tensions within the government and have drawn attention to the challenges he faces in his role.
In a interview on Citizen TV, Gachagua reflected on his first year in office, stating that he has not been given the same opportunity as Ruto, who served a full term without significant interruptions.
“Even if there is a jinx around this position, at least President Ruto was allowed to do his job for five years without harassment. I’ve only done one year, and what is happening to me is worse than what happened to Ruto,” he explained.
Gachagua made an emotional plea, asking President Ruto to allow him to serve the remaining three years of their term without ongoing disruptions.
He believes that the challenges he faces are not only unfair but also detrimental to the work they are meant to accomplish for the people of Kenya.
“Let me serve the people of Kenya. What is happening is not right,” he insisted.
The Deputy President cited specific frustrations he has encountered, including being removed from important communication channels within the President’s office.
He stated that he and his officials were taken out of the President’s Diary WhatsApp group, which has led to him missing key events. Gachagua suggested that some officials may be intentionally delaying his attendance at functions to undermine his position and credibility.
Reflecting on his past struggles, Gachagua expressed disbelief at the current situation. He recalled the difficulties he faced during the previous administration, where he stood firmly by Ruto despite experiencing personal setbacks, including legal troubles and the confiscation of his wealth.
“I underwent hell in the last administration to support President William Ruto. Cases were fabricated against me for standing with him,” he shared.
The emotional toll of these political challenges has not only affected Gachagua but also his family. He revealed that his loved ones are distressed by the ongoing political turmoil.
“My family is devastated that this can be happening to their father. A man who went out of his way to stand with President William Ruto and made sure he was elected president,” Gachagua lamented.
