The robbery took place in an apartment on Ita Road, where the gang targeted two master bedrooms, stealing not only cash but also jewellery, two laptops, two mobile phones, and several other items.
Among the stolen electronics were a HP laptop and a Lenovo laptop, along with two Casio wristwatches. The owners of the home were left in shock when they returned from their prayers and found their belongings missing.
According to police reports and statements from the victims, the criminals appeared to have prior knowledge of the cash and valuables stored in the home. Authorities believe the thieves may have planned the heist well in advance, likely knowing the owners’ schedule.
The fact that the robbers managed to steal such a large sum of money along with valuable electronics and jewellery has raised suspicions that the gang had inside information about the home and its contents.
Upon discovering the crime, the homeowners immediately alerted the authorities, who promptly visited the scene. Officers suspect that the gang consisted of several members who carefully executed the robbery while ensuring there were no witnesses at the time. Police have launched an investigation into the matter and are actively pursuing the suspects.
Meanwhile, the police are urging residents in the area to be cautious and report any suspicious activities. They are also advising homeowners to avoid keeping large sums of money or valuables in their homes without adequate security measures. The hunt for the gang is still ongoing as investigators continue to gather clues.
In a separate incident in Githunguri, Kiambu County, a young man was lynched by a mob after being caught stealing. George Kamau Njoroge, a 25-year-old, was reportedly beaten to death by locals after he snatched a mobile phone from a pedestrian.
Njoroge was later taken to Githunguri Catholic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. This incident adds to the increasing cases of mob lynching across the country, which has raised concerns among law enforcement agencies.
Police have been urging the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to hand over suspected criminals to the authorities for proper legal processing. Despite these calls, cases of mob justice remain common, with authorities reporting up to three incidents daily. Law enforcement continues to stress the importance of following the rule of law to avoid unnecessary loss of life.
In another unrelated robbery, a gang raided a petrol station on the Eldoret-Nakuru highway near Rupa Mall in Eldoret town. The incident happened on Saturday night when a group of six men, driving a Toyota Noah, stopped at a Shell petrol station.
The criminals pretended that their vehicle had engine trouble and asked for water from one of the security guards on duty to cool down the engine. Once they gained the guards' trust, the gang subdued them and tied them up with sisal ropes. The guards were then forced into a generator room, allowing the robbers to steal 42 gas cylinders from the station's gas cages.
The stolen goods included 25 gas cylinders weighing 13 kilograms and 17 cylinders weighing six kilograms. The robbers quickly loaded the stolen cylinders into their vehicle and fled the scene, leaving the guards restrained.
Police arrived later and took statements from the attendants and guards who witnessed the robbery. Investigations are still ongoing as authorities work to trace the gang and recover the stolen goods. So far, no arrests have been made in connection to the heist.
Police are now warning businesses along major highways to beef up security, particularly at night, to prevent similar incidents from happening.
