Jimi Wanjigi, a leading Kenyan businessman and political strategist, has made headlines again by demanding the return of items worth Ksh 8.5 million that were seized during a raid on his home.
Wanjigi, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Kwacha Group of Companies, has formally petitioned Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli and Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Ibrahim Amin to return his property.
The controversy began in January 2022 when Wanjigi's residence was raided by law enforcement officers. During the operation, various items, including electronics, business documents, and luxury goods, were confiscated.
Wanjigi believes the raid was politically motivated and intended to intimidate him as the 2022 General Election approached.
In his petition, Wanjigi argues that the continued detention of his belongings is both unlawful and unfair. He points out that no charges have been filed against him in connection with the seized items, and his legal team insists that the authorities have not provided valid reasons for holding onto his property.
Wanjigi claims that this situation is part of a broader pattern of harassment aimed at stifling his political influence and business activities.
The situation has drawn significant public interest and scrutiny. Wanjigi's ongoing legal battle highlights the tension between him and law enforcement, emphasizing the need for a fair resolution.
The pressure is now on Acting IG Masengeli and DCI Director Amin to address Wanjigi’s claims and decide on the future of the seized items.
Wanjigi’s petition not only challenges the legality of the raid but also brings to light broader concerns about the use of state power in political disputes.
