Kenya and Germany have signed a new Labour Mobility Agreement that aims to strengthen the ties between the two countries and open up new employment opportunities for Kenyan workers in Europe’s largest economy.
Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, shared that this agreement marks a significant step in enhancing cooperation and understanding between the two nations.
In a statement on Sunday, Njogu explained that the agreement will focus on aligning Kenya’s skilled and semi-skilled labor force with the demands of the German job market.
Unlike previous labor agreements, which were based on quotas, this new deal emphasizes matching the talents of Kenyan professionals with the specific needs of employers in Germany.
The PS expressed optimism about the potential of this agreement to create a dynamic framework for both countries, benefiting workers and businesses alike.
One of the major differences between this agreement and past labor deals is its focus on talent matching rather than limiting the number of workers.
Njogu stated that Kenya has a large, well-trained workforce, and this agreement will provide a platform for Kenyan talent to shine on the global stage.
By creating a framework that matches Kenyan skills with German labor market requirements, the deal is expected to open more targeted opportunities for Kenyan workers.
The agreement will also facilitate cooperation on other key areas, such as student training, apprenticeships, and information exchange.
It aims to promote better understanding of labor market needs, enhance employment opportunities, and ensure the welfare of workers who move to Germany.
Additionally, the framework will help improve cooperation on readmission and return processes, ensuring that workers who choose to come back to Kenya can do so in an organized and supportive manner.
Principal Secretary Njogu highlighted that the agreement is not just about labor but also about fostering stronger connections between the people of Kenya and Germany.
