Kenyan Officer Shares to Ruto How They Took Over Deadly Towns in Haiti

Kenyan police officers deployed in Haiti under the Multinational Security System Support (MSS) have reported significant progress in their mission. During a visit by President William Ruto on September 21, 2024, the officers shared their achievements in bringing stability to some of Haiti’s most dangerous areas.

Led by Senior Assistant Inspector General Geoffrey Otunge, the Kenyan police have ventured into territories that were previously too dangerous for other forces.

Among these areas are Delmas and Soleil, strongholds of the notorious gang leader Jimmy Barbecue. Officer Daniel Nachera Njomo explained that their mission had made history as the first force to enter these high-risk regions, boosting the morale and determination of the entire unit.Speaking to President Ruto, the officers expressed their enthusiasm about the mission's success but also highlighted challenges, particularly the need for better equipment. Njomo requested that the President expedite the delivery of tactical gear, noting that while some teams had received advanced equipment, others were still waiting.

Njomo requested that the President expedite the delivery of tactical gear, noting that while some teams had received advanced equipment, others were still waiting.

In response, President Ruto assured the officers that their concerns were being addressed, and preparations were underway to provide the necessary gear. He praised the team for their bravery and success in the mission, noting that their work had raised the respect for Kenyan police forces internationally.

The mission had faced doubts initially, with many unsure of its success. However, the Kenyan officers' accomplishments have proven skeptics wrong, and other forces are now considering joining the effort in Haiti.

With the officers’ determination and the promise of further support from the Kenyan government, the mission in Haiti continues to show positive results, offering hope for long-term peace and stability in the troubled Caribbean nation.
