Mixed Reactions Follow Mt Kenya MP's Comments on Ruto's Popularity

Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia has sparked controversy with his recent remarks about President William Ruto and the shifting political mood in Mt Kenya.

Kururia's comments have drawn a range of responses from Kenyans, reflecting the complexities of political support and public opinion.

In a statement, Kururia questioned the current sentiments of his constituents, noting a significant shift from the pro-Ruto stance observed during the 2022 elections.

Back then, the region's slogan was "Kaba Ruto na UDA, Hatutaki Dynasty," signaling strong support for Ruto and his party, UDA, while opposing political dynasties. However, Kururia highlighted that the current sentiment seems to have changed to "Ruto Must Go."

Kururia has expressed his intention to prioritize divine guidance over public opinion, stating, "The favour of God is the ONLY OPTION."

This stance has drawn mixed reactions from the public. Some people warn that his disregard for the changing political mood could jeopardize his political future, potentially leading to his defeat in the 2027 elections.

Social media reactions reveal a divided opinion on Kururia's comments. Some users are skeptical of his approach, with @Mbote commenting, "We will show you that we are not joking," suggesting that ignoring the electorate’s views might lead to serious consequences.

On the other hand, @Koskey remarked, "The MP is following his heart, but ground realities are changing," acknowledging that political dynamics are fluid and unpredictable.

Kururia's comments shows a broader debate about the role of public opinion in political decision-making. While some leaders prioritize listening to their constituents, others, like Kururia, may choose to follow personal or ideological beliefs, even if it means defying current trends.
