Rigathi Gachagua Missing as Nyeri MPs Hold Key Meeting with President Ruto

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was absent from a critical meeting between President William Ruto and seven Members of Parliament (MPs) from Nyeri County, his home region.

The meeting, which took place at State House Nairobi, has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions among political analysts and the public, with many wondering why the deputy president did not attend.

On the day of the meeting, President Ruto shared an update on his official Twitter account, highlighting one of the key outcomes of their discussions.

He announced that Othaya's Mwai Kibaki Hospital, a significant healthcare facility in Nyeri, would be elevated to the status of a parastatal.

This move means the hospital will have its own board and a separate budget, which will help ensure it is fully equipped to serve the people of the region more effectively.

In his tweet, President Ruto said, “Othaya's Mwai Kibaki Hospital, an annex of Kenyatta National Hospital, will be gazetted as a parastatal with a board and an independent budget.

This elevation will ensure the health facility is fully equipped to enable it to play its rightful role in the provision of Universal Health Coverage that begins next month.”

This announcement is a major step towards improving healthcare access in the country, a core focus of President Ruto’s government. The parastatal status will allow Mwai Kibaki Hospital to operate more independently, enhancing its ability to deliver better medical services to the public.

The meeting between President Ruto and the Nyeri MPs, which included representatives from constituencies such as Othaya and Tetu, was seen as an important event for the advancement of key development projects in the region.

The discussions were expected to strengthen collaboration between the national government and local leaders in Nyeri, which is one of the strongholds of Deputy President Gachagua.

However, Gachagua’s absence from the meeting has led to speculation about possible differences between the president and his deputy.

Some political analysts have suggested that there may be underlying tensions or disagreements within the leadership, though no concrete evidence has been presented to support these claims.

Despite the growing curiosity, neither the deputy president nor his close allies have provided any explanation for why he missed such an important gathering.

Gachagua, who is widely known for his strong influence in the Mt. Kenya region, has been a key figure in President Ruto's administration.

His absence from this meeting, especially one involving leaders from his home county, has only deepened the speculation surrounding the relationship between him and the president.

Political observers are now keenly watching for any statements or moves from the deputy president that might shed light on the situation.

Although it remains unclear why Gachagua was missing from the State House meeting, the focus on healthcare development in Nyeri is seen as a positive move for the region.

The elevation of Mwai Kibaki Hospital is a significant achievement that could have long-term benefits for the people of Nyeri and beyond.
