Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi Warns Ruto to Avoid Repeating Uhuru’s Mistakes With DP Gachagua

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has cautioned President William Ruto about how he manages his relationship with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The prominent lawyer advised Ruto to take lessons from the previous administration, where former President Uhuru Kenyatta failed to control the growing power of his deputy, Ruto, which eventually led to a split in their government.

In this warning, Abdullahi emphasized that President Ruto should not let his deputy gain too much independence or form a separate power structure.

Abdullahi drew comparisons between the current situation and what happened during Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidency.

He pointed out that Kenyatta’s reluctance to handle the increasing tension between himself and his then-deputy allowed Ruto to establish a strong political base that later became a challenge for the president.

The lawyer argued that a similar risk is present in Ruto’s relationship with Gachagua if left unchecked. He warned that Gachagua might build his own political power base, which could threaten the unity and control of the government.

“If not managed carefully, Gachagua will create a parallel government,” said Abdullahi, noting that this would disrupt the administration’s harmony.

Abdullahi advised Ruto to assert his authority and keep Gachagua aligned with his government’s goals and policies.

He stressed that waiting too long to address these issues could give Gachagua the chance to act independently, just as Ruto did when he was deputy president.

While President Ruto and Deputy President Gachagua have publicly maintained a united front, there are growing speculations about possible tensions within the government.

Some political analysts have observed disagreements between the two leaders, particularly on matters such as government appointments and policy decisions. These differences have raised concerns about the long-term stability of Ruto’s government.

Abdullahi’s remarks suggest that these small disagreements could develop into larger conflicts if Ruto does not take decisive steps to address them.

He argued that strong leadership is essential in ensuring that the government remains stable and focused on delivering on its promises to the Kenyan people. By learning from Uhuru’s mistakes, Ruto can prevent similar issues from affecting his administration.

Abdullahi’s warning also highlights the importance of early intervention. He suggested that President Kenyatta’s failure to act promptly in dealing with Ruto’s growing political influence was the root cause of their fallout.

Abdullahi believes that Ruto should avoid making the same mistake with Gachagua by being more assertive in managing their relationship from the beginning.
