Tension Rises as Gachagua Addresses Rift Valley Amid Impeachment Rumors

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is addressing the Kalenjin community through multiple vernacular radio stations tonight, September 30, 2024, as tensions between him and President William Ruto continue to mount.

The interview, scheduled from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, comes amid rumors of an impending impeachment motion against Gachagua.

Reports suggest that Gachagua’s appearance on over five Kalenjin radio stations is part of his efforts to explain to the community what transpired between him and Ruto.

Speculation has been growing after Gachagua allegedly had a heated argument with the president, following the denial of Ksh 8 billion, which he reportedly demanded before stepping down from his position.

Several Rift Valley MPs, including Johanna Ng'eno (Emurua Dikirr), Musa Sirma (Eldama Ravine), and Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, initially voiced their reservations about Gachagua's potential impeachment.
They warned that such a move could negatively impact Ruto’s 2027 presidential campaign. However, after discussions and pressure, Ng'eno reportedly changed his stance and added his signature to support the impeachment motion.

Tensions have further escalated after KTN journalist Ken Mijungu revealed that during the June 2024 Gen Z protests, Gachagua allegedly worked against Ruto.

According to Mijungu, five Cabinet Secretaries pleaded with Gachagua to help the president manage the demonstrations, but he refused.

Instead, Gachagua allegedly told the CSs to inform Ruto to resign, suggesting that he could take over and handle the situation himself.

This revelation has added fuel to the ongoing speculation about the fractured relationship between Gachagua and Ruto.Gachagua’s critics accuse him of undermining the president's leadership during critical moments, while his supporters argue that his tough stance is a necessary approach in turbulent political times.
