Tensions Rise as MP Oscar Sudi Predicts Rigathi Gachagua’s Impeachment in Two Weeks

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political future seems uncertain as impeachment threats against him continue to grow.

According to Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Gachagua could be ousted within two weeks. However, this statement has sparked strong reactions from both political leaders and the public, with many questioning the possibility of such an event and its potential impact on Kenya’s stability.

The friction between Gachagua and President William Ruto has been escalating in recent weeks, following the deputy president’s controversial remarks about the administration. This growing tension has fueled rumors of an internal struggle within the Kenya Kwanza government, with some leaders openly expressing their dissatisfaction with Gachagua.

During a funeral service, Oscar Sudi declared that the deputy president’s days in office were numbered, predicting that Gachagua would be impeached within two weeks.

Sudi’s bold statement comes despite the fact that no formal impeachment process has been initiated. "Maximum two weeks," Sudi confidently said, sparking debate about whether such a move could be carried out.

The public has responded with a mix of opinions. Some Kenyans have come to Gachagua’s defense, praising his leadership and dismissing the idea of his impeachment as baseless. One citizen, Muturi Prince, voiced his support for Gachagua, stating that the deputy president enjoys significant support from Kenyans. He commented, "The truthful man is going nowhere... God has poured extraordinary love in the hearts of the majority of Kenyans for DP."

Others, however, view Sudi’s claims as a reflection of deeper political troubles within the ruling coalition. Bernaculate Ogonya suggested that if Gachagua were to be impeached, it could lead to the collapse of the entire government, forcing new elections. “If Riggy G goes, then I swear the whole government is being dissolved. We go for elections,” she stated.

Several political leaders have weighed in on the situation, warning that impeachment could have serious consequences for the country’s stability. Kericho Icon, a political commentator, stressed the need for dialogue rather than divisive actions. “Impeaching Rigathi Gachagua can have far-reaching consequences... Such decisions can destabilize not just the government but also public trust in democratic processes,” he noted.

Others, like Haggai Kimonge, urged leaders to focus on more pressing issues, such as service delivery, rather than engaging in political infighting.

He pointed out that when President Ruto faced similar challenges during his time as deputy to Uhuru Kenyatta, no impeachment efforts were made. “Focus on service delivery. Avoid sideshows... Nobody impeached Ruto when he differed with his then-boss,” he said.

In related news, Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has criticized Gachagua for making indirect remarks about his relationship with President Ruto during a live interview. Sakaja expressed concern that Gachagua’s statements were inappropriate and could harm the government’s image. He emphasized the importance of keeping sensitive matters private and urged the deputy president to act with more caution.
