Known as the Mukuru Quarry killer, Khalusha allegedly confessed to killing 42 women over a two-year period, including his own wife.
The DCI is urging the public to provide any information on his whereabouts through the anonymous hotline #FichuaKwaDCI at 0800722203, or via emergency lines 999, 911, and 112.
Khalusha, originally from Shiru Sub-location in Vihiga County, managed to escape from the Gigiri Police Station on August 20, 2024.
This bold escape was reportedly executed with the help of 12 Eritrean nationals who had also been detained.
Initial reports suggested that the escape involved cutting through a wire mesh and scaling a perimeter wall.
However, further investigation revealed that the escapees might have simply walked out through the main door, raising suspicions of internal collusion.
Five police officers from the station were arrested on suspicion of assisting in the escape but were later released on cash bonds pending an in-depth investigation.
Following Khalusha’s arrest in July, authorities conducted a search at his home and found various items believed to be connected to his alleged crimes.
Recovered evidence included 24 SIM cards, eight smartphones, two basic phones, a laptop, a hard drive, two flash drives, and a memory card.
The police also seized several personal items, including female clothing and accessories, as well as five rolls of marijuana and assorted documents.
This evidence was linked to the investigation after the bodies of women were discovered at the Kware dumpsite in Mukuru.
Khalusha’s attorney, however, disputes the confession, arguing that it was forced under duress.
He alleges that Khalusha was tortured and threatened by police officers to admit to the murders.
In a statement, the lawyer said Khalusha was terrified and distressed during the interrogation, and thus, his confession may not be reliable.
