Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga recently corrected Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi after a congratulatory post about Kahiga’s involvement in President William Ruto’s development tour in Turkana.
Wamumbi’s message, posted on social media, thanked Kahiga for "representing Nyeri during President William Samoei Ruto's development tour in Turkana County."
He praised the governor's attendance at the event, which he believed had occurred the previous day, Friday, October 25.
However, Governor Kahiga responded promptly, clarifying the details of his visit. According to Kahiga, he had indeed traveled to Turkana but had been there a day earlier on Thursday, October 24.
He noted that his visit was part of a different occasion, where he was accompanied by Governors Ahmed Abdullahi of Wajir, Muthomi Njuki of Tharaka Nithi, and Kenneth Lusaka of Bungoma.
Kahiga emphasized that while he would have been honored to accompany President Ruto on his development tour, the events had taken place on separate days.
Kahiga’s clarification prompted Wamumbi to issue a second statement, acknowledging his mistake and thanking the governor for setting the record straight.
He expressed that he understood the situation better now and conveyed that there were no issues between them.
His quick response to the clarification helped to prevent any further misunderstanding among the public.
This incident highlights the importance of verifying information before sharing it publicly. When leaders share incorrect details, it can cause unnecessary confusion and spread misinformation.
In a digital age where information spreads quickly, accuracy is essential, particularly when communicating with the public.
Kahiga’s remarks also reflected his sense of duty in his new position as the vice chairman of the Council of Governors of Kenya.
Though he did not attend the specific event with President Ruto, he expressed his willingness to support the President’s development efforts across the country.
