"It's D-Day" MP Who Filed Impeachment Motion Reacts Hours After Gachagua's National Address

Kenyans are following with bated breath the growing political tension surrounding the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

This comes after Kibwezi West MP Mwenge Mutuse, who is spearheading the motion, publicly spoke out just hours after Gachagua’s national address.

Mutuse, who has been vocal in his criticism of the Deputy President, took to Twitter to signal the start of what is shaping up to be a major political showdown. His message read, "It’s D-Day, Twende kazi! Mbele iko sawa," roughly translating to "It's time, let's get to work! The future is bright."

Mutuse's impeachment motion against Gachagua accuses the Deputy President of gross misconduct and violations of the Kenyan Constitution.

According to the motion, Gachagua has allegedly engaged in actions that undermine his role and responsibilities, which the MP believes are grounds for his removal from office.

The motion has sparked considerable debate both in Parliament and among the public, with strong opinions being voiced on social media.

In his national address, Gachagua responded to the allegations, dismissing them as politically motivated and without merit. He referred to the motion as a "well-coordinated coup" aimed at pushing him out of office by individuals with hidden agendas.

Gachagua also stressed that the accusations lacked substance, saying, "There is no ground there... you guys are using parliament to settle political scores which is so unfortunate."

Following Gachagua’s address and Mutuse’s Twitter post, Kenyans took to social media platforms to express their opinions. Some have sided with Gachagua, criticizing the impeachment effort as unnecessary and politically driven.

Others, however, have supported Mutuse, arguing that the Deputy President must be held accountable for his actions if found guilty of any constitutional violations.

One user, Kevin, commented, "There is no ground there… you guys are using parliament to settle political scores which is so unfortunate." This view was echoed by another social media user, Kavuli, who added, "William Ruto is using you [Mutuse] as a FOOL to move a NONSENSICAL impeachment that you've no clue about its contents.

You're a DISGRACE to the people of Kibwezi West!" Others, like Joseph, raised concerns about the legal implications of the process, stating, "I am not a lawmaker, but I see big constitutional non-conformity in this process. Parliament, sober up."

Gachagua has maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal, promising to defend himself vigorously before the National Assembly.

He accused those behind the impeachment motion of using Parliament as a tool for personal vendettas, calling the accusations against him "outrageous."

As the motion heads to the floor of the National Assembly for deliberation, many are closely watching the political developments to see how it unfolds.

Gachagua’s defense team is expected to challenge the validity of the charges against him, while Mutuse will need to present concrete evidence to support the claims outlined in his motion.

With political tensions high, all eyes are on the Kenyan Parliament as the country awaits the outcome of the impeachment process. If the motion passes, it will mark a significant shift in the country's political landscape, possibly leading to Deputy President Gachagua's removal from office.

However, if it fails, Gachagua will emerge politically stronger, potentially positioning himself as a key player in the upcoming elections.

In the meantime, Kenyans continue to debate the merits of the impeachment on social media, with opinions divided over whether it is a legitimate attempt to uphold the Constitution or merely a political maneuver aimed at destabilizing the government.
