A woman from Kamulu, Machakos County, is devastated after discovering that her mother squandered KSh 450,000 she saved while working in Saudi Arabia.
Ann Njeri had hoped to secure a better future for herself and her young child with the money she sent home during her contract abroad. Unfortunately, upon her return, she faced a heartbreaking betrayal.
Njeri worked hard in Saudi Arabia, sending money back home each month to support her family. She regularly sent her mother KSh 50,000 for household expenses and to save for her child's school fees.
Trusting her mother completely, she had opened a bank account for her to manage these funds securely. Njeri believed that her mother, being a dedicated churchgoer, would handle her savings responsibly.
However, everything changed when Njeri returned home in January 2024. Instead of the financial support she expected, her mother coldly informed her that there was no money left and even chased her away along with her children. This shocking betrayal left Njeri in disbelief.
"I never imagined my mother would do this to me," she stated, clearly hurt by her mother's actions.
As Njeri tried to piece together what had happened, she recalled the communication she had with her mother while abroad. Her mother had sent her edited receipts, leading Njeri to believe that her money was safe.
When she downloaded a banking app to check her account, she was horrified to find only KSh 50,000 instead of the KSh 450,000 she had expected after 18 months of sending money home. “I began to panic,” she admitted, realizing that the trust she had placed in her mother had been severely misplaced.
After confronting her mother about the missing funds, Njeri was told that her money was supposed to be placed in a fixed account, promising that she would receive it once it matured. Unfortunately, this promise never materialized, leaving Njeri even more frustrated and heartbroken. “Some of that money was meant for my child’s school fees. It hurt me deeply,” she said.
Despite the betrayal, Njeri expressed a willingness to forgive her mother, but she emphasized the urgency of her situation. “I am appealing for someone to give me a job. My number is +254 742 500529,” she pleaded.
