In recent months, rumors have been spreading about a possible move by some Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Mount Kenya region to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
This alleged plot has caused quite a stir in political circles, especially with claims that Gachagua is facing increasing opposition from his own region.
Reports indicate that a meeting was held on a Saturday night, attended by 21 MPs from Mount Kenya, at the home of a newly appointed Cabinet Secretary in Nairobi.
The MPs allegedly discussed plans to remove the Deputy President from office, accusing him of gross violations of the constitution and misconduct.
They also claimed that Gachagua had been undermining President William Ruto and engaging in divisive tribal politics, which they believe could lead to serious problems in the country.
The MPs are reportedly confident that they can rally support from other legislators, including those from the opposition, to push the impeachment motion through.
In recent times, there has been noticeable cooperation between the opposition and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), particularly with President Ruto. This collaboration could give the impeachment motion enough momentum to pass.
However, Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc Kenya Party, has responded to these reports, dismissing them as possible distractions.
Taking to her social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), Karua cautioned Kenyans against believing everything they hear, suggesting that these rumors could be part of a strategy to divert public attention from the more pressing issues facing the country.
