Former students of Samor Secondary School, now known as Mogotio Girls High School, gathered after 44 years to reconnect and reminisce.
This memorable event, held in Muiya, Mogotio, Baringo County, brought together alumni from the 1970s and 1980s, reuniting old friends who hadn’t seen each other in decades.
The gathering offered a chance to share memories, reflect on their journeys, and celebrate their shared past.
The alumni, both men and women, came dressed in sharp attire, with some arriving in state-of-the-art cars.
Their appearance reflected the success and progress many have achieved since their school days. Among the honored guests was Abraham Wendot, the school's former cook, who was remembered fondly for his strict yet caring attitude towards students.
Wendot had earned respect as someone who, though tough when provoked, provided meals and support to many students during challenging times.
The school, originally known as Samor Mix Secondary School, later became Mogotio Mix Secondary before finally transitioning into Mogotio Girls High School.
Back in those early days, the school operated as a day school with limited resources, which made student life difficult at times.
Former student Andrew, who helped organize the event, expressed gratitude, saying, “It is a big day; we are very grateful. We are healthy, and God made it possible for us to meet.”
Reflecting on their time in school, the alumni spoke about the hardships they endured, like attending classes without shoes, struggling to pay school fees, and working to support their education.
However, they agreed that these experiences helped shape them into resilient individuals. One alumnus at the event commented, “We went through difficult periods, but they made us who we are today.”
The reunion wasn’t just about memories; it also provided a chance for the former students to celebrate their shared roots.
Many of them shared touching stories about Mogotio, including Arap Bonde, who shared that his parents had worked at the school. For him, the school held special significance, having been a big part of his family’s life.
The alumni left the gathering with renewed friendships and a deeper appreciation for the journey they have traveled.
