Millicent Omanga has shared her thoughts following her recent appointment by President William Ruto as a member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission.
The announcement, made earlier in the day, named various members of the commission, including Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, who will serve as the chairperson.
The Nairobi Rivers Commission has been established to address the pollution and poor condition of Nairobi’s rivers.
The commission will work on improving the rivers' state, making them cleaner and safer for residents.
The appointment of leaders such as Omanga and Wanjiru reflects the government’s commitment to addressing environmental issues and restoring natural resources.
After the appointment, Omanga took to social media to express her feelings, quoting a Bible verse from the book of Ecclesiastes.
She wrote, “Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.”
She used this quote to reflect on her journey and hard work, suggesting that, despite one’s efforts, there is often a sense of striving with no lasting gain. Omanga concluded her message by wishing Kenyans a peaceful and blessed Sabbath.
Her message reflects a moment of humility and introspection. As she takes on her new role in the Nairobi Rivers Commission, it seems Omanga is thinking deeply about the challenges ahead and the responsibilities that come with the appointment.
This commission’s work will include cleaning up the rivers and preserving the environment for future generations.
The task is significant, as Nairobi’s rivers have been impacted by pollution and improper waste disposal for years.
It’s hoped that this commission, with its dedicated team, will work toward sustainable solutions that can transform the rivers into healthy ecosystems.
