Peace Initiative Grants Scholarships to 2,000 Students in North Rift

A new initiative has awarded scholarships to over 2,000 students in the North Rift region of Kenya. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between the Pokot and Marakwet communities, which have experienced conflict in the past.

By providing access to technical and vocational education, the program seeks to empower young people and promote a shared sense of purpose among the communities.

The scholarship program is designed to support students who want to enroll in technical and vocational training institutions. These institutions play a crucial role in equipping young individuals with valuable skills needed in today’s job market. 

The scholarships cover various fields, including engineering, agriculture, and health sciences. This diverse range of training will enable students to gain practical skills that can help them secure employment or even start their own businesses.

The selection process for the scholarships was highly competitive. Students from 20 different wards in Elgeyo Marakwet participated, showcasing their talents and determination.

The initiative aims to recognize and reward those who have demonstrated commitment to their education and community. By providing these opportunities, the initiative encourages students to work hard and aspire for better futures.

One of the key goals of this peace initiative is to promote understanding and cooperation between the Pokot and Marakwet communities. Historically, these groups have faced challenges in their relationships, often leading to conflicts over resources and territory.
