Pundits: Anne Waiguru, A Strong Contender to Replace Gachagua If Impeached

Anne Waiguru, the Governor of Kirinyaga County, is emerging as a leading candidate to take over from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua if he is impeached.

Many political experts believe that she could be the next Deputy President, especially with Gachagua's future uncertain.

Waiguru has over 20 years of experience in public service and economic policy, making her a respected figure in Kenyan politics.

Her career began during President Mwai Kibaki's administration, where she played a key role in modernizing the government. One of her major achievements was establishing the Integrated Financial Management and Information System (IFMIS), which improved procurement processes.

She also helped create Huduma Centers, which made it easier for citizens to access government services.

In 2013, Waiguru made history as Kenya's first Cabinet Secretary for Devolution. In this role, she was responsible for transferring resources and powers to county governments.

Her efforts ensured that these counties were ready to handle their own development programs effectively.
Waiguru transitioned into politics and became one of the first female governors in Kenya when she was elected in 2017. She was re-elected in 2022 and has continued to make significant contributions in Kirinyaga County.

Under her leadership, the county has seen improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, and economic empowerment for its residents.

One of her key projects is the Kerugoya Level Five Hospital, which has greatly improved healthcare for thousands of people in the area.

Additionally, her "Wezesha" Agriculture Stimulus program has helped many households by supporting their farming activities.

Waiguru is also known for her commitment to gender equality. As a leader of the Embrace movement and a supporter of the 2/3 Gender Principle, she has worked hard to increase women's representation in leadership roles.
Her efforts have encouraged many women to pursue careers in politics and other sectors.
