Ayieko's body was found in a swamp in Sabatia, Siaya County, after he was reported missing.
This tragic discovery has led to a thorough investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in the Nyanza region.
Authorities reported that Ayieko died from blunt force trauma to the head, an indication of the violent nature of the crime.
On Tuesday, October 29, police arrested three suspects—two women and a man—believed to have been en route to commit a robbery.
During the arrest, a confrontation broke out, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. One of the female suspects sustained severe injuries during this encounter and later succumbed to her wounds.
The other suspects are currently in custody, providing valuable leads in the investigation.
Among the items recovered at the scene was a Ceska pistol, along with 11 rounds of ammunition reportedly belonging to Ayieko.
Police also found police garments among the suspects’ possessions, raising further questions about the suspects’ connections and possible affiliations.
A male suspect involved in the clash managed to escape despite sustaining gunshot wounds, fleeing into nearby bushes before escaping on a motorbike.
Another suspect, identified as Victor Okoth, was arrested on Monday, October 28, in Dandora, Nairobi.
Okoth was found to have withdrawn over KSh 100,000 from Ayieko’s mobile account. Reports indicate that he used this money to rent a house and purchase household items.
Following his arrest, Okoth appeared at the Siaya Law Courts on Wednesday, October 30. The court granted the police permission to detain him for 21 days to allow for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Ayieko’s family is struggling to come to terms with his tragic death, especially after losing another family member only a month prior.
The family has called on the public to join them in prayers as they seek justice for Ayieko.
CCTV footage from the investigation has reportedly shown two men disposing of Ayieko’s car shortly after he went missing, strengthening the case against the suspects.
With five more suspects believed to be connected to the crime still at large, the DCI continues to pursue these leads, intensifying their efforts to ensure that all involved parties are brought to justice.
