"They Were Bribed With Billions" Wiper Senator Sensationally Claims Adani Sponsored Raila's 2012 Campaign, Says This

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has stirred controversy by claiming that the Indian conglomerate Adani Group played a significant role in sponsoring Raila Odinga's 2012 presidential campaign.

Speaking on Citizen TV on October 14, 2024, Maanzo stated that Adani Group, known for its global business ventures, financially supported Raila’s presidential bid under the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD).

At that time, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was Raila’s running mate. Maanzo asserted that Kalonzo was aware of the support, although he did not specify the exact amount of money involved in the sponsorship.

The senator went further, suggesting that both Raila Odinga and President William Ruto have had dealings with the Adani Group.

According to him, the Indian company has allegedly bribed the two leaders, which is why it continues to receive favorable treatment from the Kenyan government.

Maanzo highlighted the recent appointment of Opiyo Wandayi as the Energy Cabinet Secretary as an example of such favoritism, suggesting that bribery might have played a role in these decisions.

These allegations come at a time when the Adani Group has been a subject of heated debate in Kenya, particularly after its proposal to take over the management of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Several political leaders, including those from the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition, have opposed the deal, arguing that JKIA is a critical national asset that should not be handled by a foreign company.

The Wiper Party, alongside KANU, DAP Kenya, and the Jubilee Party, filed a lawsuit to challenge Adani's involvement in the proposed deal.

Raila Odinga, who previously served as the Prime Minister of Kenya, has recently come under fire for defending the Adani Group despite the mounting concerns.

In response, some Kenyans have expressed disappointment, particularly on social media, where many voiced their displeasure over Raila’s stance.

The allegations made by Senator Maanzo have raised questions about the relationship between Kenyan leaders and foreign companies.
