Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia has delivered a strong message to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, just days before his impeachment trial in the Senate.
Kururia presented Gachagua with two choices, urging him to consider them seriously if he wishes to avoid severe political consequences.
According to the MP, Gachagua has three days to decide on one of two possible paths. The first option is for Gachagua to seek forgiveness from those he has wronged. Kururia suggests that if the deputy president reaches out and asks for pardon, the impeachment process may be halted.
"You have three days. Reach out for forgiveness, and you might be forgiven, which will stop the impeachment," the MP advised.
The second option offered by Kururia is for Gachagua to resign. The young legislator believes that resignation would allow Gachagua to retain his political standing and avoid being barred from running in the 2027 elections.
"Resign now, and you will still be eligible to vie in 2027," Kururia explained. He also warned that if Gachagua fails to take either of these steps, the impeachment could go through, barring him from the next election cycle. The MP added a harsh remark, telling Gachagua, "If not so, go to hell."
This advice comes just days before Gachagua is scheduled to appear before the Senate Plenary for his impeachment trial. Last Tuesday, the National Assembly voted to impeach the deputy president, setting the stage for this significant Senate trial.
The political future of DP Gachagua hangs in the balance, and many are watching closely to see how the situation unfolds.
Elijah Njoroge Kururia, a young and outspoken MP from the Mount Kenya region, has been vocal about the deputy president's actions and the current political crisis surrounding the impeachment.
His advice seems to be aimed at preventing further damage to Gachagua's political career and offering a way out before the situation escalates further.
