This development comes amid the ongoing impeachment process of current Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whose role as UDA's deputy party leader now hangs in the balance.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, as Omar addressed members of the press in Nairobi.
He disclosed that UDA’s National Executive Committee (NEC) would make a final decision on Gachagua’s leadership role once the court concludes his impeachment proceedings.
The Secretary General emphasized that the party is awaiting the court’s decision before implementing the leadership changes.
"Once the process in the courts has been concluded, we will sit down as a party and ensure we replace the Deputy Party Leader with a new one," Omar stated.
This move reflects UDA's determination to maintain stability within its leadership as it continues to shape Kenya’s political landscape under President William Ruto's guidance.
Omar also addressed Gachagua directly, encouraging him to focus on his political career independently if he wishes to continue his journey outside the UDA party.
"If he wants to go and regroup himself and re-organize politically, we wish him all the best, but let us move on," he added.
This decision aligns with UDA's goal to solidify its structure and offer a clear direction amidst the uncertainties surrounding Gachagua’s impeachment.
By choosing Kindiki, the party hopes to introduce new energy to its leadership, possibly enhancing its public image as it prepares for the next election cycle.
In recent months, UDA has faced increasing internal and external pressures as various factions push for different leadership directions.
The appointment of Kindiki, an experienced leader, could help unify the party’s approach while addressing any rifts caused by the ongoing legal battles surrounding Gachagua.
Gachagua’s impeachment proceedings have drawn significant attention across Kenya, with the outcome set to impact the ruling party’s future strategies.
Kindiki’s appointment as deputy party leader is expected to bring a renewed focus on UDA’s mission and potentially stabilize the party’s internal dynamics
