"We're Not Mad" Renowned MP Discloses That They Impeached Gachagua Expecting Kindiki To Be Next DP

Imenti Central Member of Parliament, Moses Kirima, has expressed concerns over the unexpected political events following the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to Kirima, Meru MPs supported Gachagua’s removal, anticipating that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki would take over as the new deputy president.

Kirima revealed that Meru lawmakers signed the impeachment motion based on the belief that Kindiki, a well-known figure in Meru County, would be chosen to fill the vacant position.

However, things have not gone as expected. Since the impeachment, several political figures have expressed interest in becoming the next deputy president, leading to increased lobbying and competition.

Kirima expressed his disappointment with the ongoing political lobbying, noting that the process is not as straightforward as it was initially assumed.

He shared his concerns, stating that various groups and tribal leaders are trying to influence the selection process, which was not what the Meru MPs had hoped for when they backed the impeachment.

“We Meru MPs signed that impeachment on the belief that Kindiki would be appointed as the next deputy president,” Kirima explained.

“But things have changed, and now there is a lot of lobbying from different communities. I am worried because the situation is not as clear as it was.”

Among the notable political figures positioning themselves for the deputy president role are National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Council of Governors Chairperson Anne Waiguru, Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is currently vying for the African Union Commission chairmanship.

Kirima also mentioned that President William Ruto has indicated the possibility of a female deputy president, further complicating the situation.

This has caused frustration for those who supported Kindiki’s potential appointment, as they believed he was well-equipped to handle the challenges facing Meru County.

In addition, Kirima clarified that the impeachment decision was based on the charges presented against Gachagua in Parliament and was not influenced by President Ruto.

He emphasized that the MPs used their judgment and understanding of the situation when voting for Gachagua’s impeachment.
