The woman, whose identity remains unknown, was at the Sub County Lands Adjudication office in Thika West, where she had gone to seek assistance.
According to Thika West Sub County Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi, the elderly woman was in the waiting room with other clients when the tragic incident occurred.
It is reported that she was waiting for the Lands Adjudication Officer to return from an official duty. The officer had instructed all clients to wait until the afternoon when she would resume serving them.
Sadly, while waiting, the woman suddenly collapsed, prompting a swift response from local police officers.
The officers who arrived at the scene immediately rushed her to the hospital for emergency treatment. However, despite their efforts, the woman was confirmed dead upon arrival.
"This is a very sad and sudden incident. We received a report from the office that the woman collapsed while waiting for services.
We immediately responded and took her to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving," said Commander Muchangi.
The family of the deceased has been informed of the tragic event, and they are now in the process of arranging a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collapse, but the cause remains unclear at this point.
The community has been left in deep shock, with many expressing concern over the health and safety of elderly individuals who visit public offices for services.
This incident has raised questions about the provision of medical support or emergency response measures at such public offices, where many people, especially the elderly, often visit to access essential services.
