DCI Arrest Mastermind For Running Syndicate That Steals Cars And Leaves Drivers Unconscious

On Monday, 11 November 2024, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) successfully arrested a man believed to be the mastermind behind a car theft syndicate that has been terrorizing the public for months.

The suspect was caught after a brief chase while driving a stolen Toyota Dyna Mini Truck. When police officers attempted to stop him, he fled, leaving the truck behind.

The truck had been stolen from a 32-year-old man, who was found unconscious at the scene.

It is suspected that the victim was drugged by the car thieves before being abandoned at a guest house in the area.

The authorities believe that the suspect is a key player in a well-organized group that steals vehicles, often from unsuspecting victims, and then smuggles them out of the country to sell at low prices.

The arrest came after police officers, working on intelligence gathered over time, spotted the suspect driving the stolen truck.

Following the chase, the suspect was apprehended and taken to the Loitoktok Police Station, where he is now awaiting further legal proceedings.

Police are investigating his connection to other members of the car theft syndicate.

This incident is not the first of its kind in Loitoktok. In July 2023, a similar case was reported where a gang used drugs to rob motorists.

One of the gang members, a woman, lured drivers by posing as a passenger. She would drug the driver, leading them to another location where her accomplices would carry out the robbery.

The stolen vehicles were then sold across the border due to Loitoktok's proximity to international borders.

The DCI officers have previously raided properties linked to these criminals. During one of the raids, they recovered stolen mobile phones, including one that had been taken from a motorbike rider who had also been drugged before losing his bike in Juja, Kiambu County.

Additionally, police found a stash of pills used to drug victims.

The recent arrest is a significant breakthrough in the fight against car theft in the region, and authorities are determined to dismantle the entire syndicate.

The suspect will be arraigned in court soon, facing charges related to car theft, robbery, and drugging victims.
