The grim discovery took place on the morning of November 24, 2024, in Matinyani Sub-County, Kitui County.
According to the police, officers from the Matinyani Sub-County police station, led by the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO), responded quickly to the scene.
Upon arrival, they found Wambua’s lifeless body crammed inside the plastic drum, with only his head protruding from the top.
While no major injuries were visible on the body, a small cut wound was discovered on the neck just beneath the chin.
The investigators also found a blood-stained panga in the kitchen of the house where the deceased had been staying.
It is believed that Wambua had spent the night there before his death. The panga, which is considered a key piece of evidence, is currently being examined by the police to determine if it was involved in the crime.
The police have not ruled out foul play, and a murder investigation is underway.

After processing the crime scene, the body of Patrick Mutua Wambua was transported to the Kitui County Referral Hospital mortuary.
