The family of Daniel Muthiani, popularly known as "Sniper," has finally decided to lay him to rest on Friday, December 13, 2024, marking one year since his brutal abduction and murder.
Sniper, a well-known Meru blogger, was kidnapped in December 2023 and later found dead along the banks of the Mutonga River in Tharaka Nithi County.
His death shocked the nation, drawing widespread condemnation and calls for justice.
For months, Sniper’s family preserved his remains in a morgue, refusing to bury him until justice was served.
The costs of preservation were covered by well-wishers who stood in solidarity with the family.
Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, the family has resolved to proceed with the burial while continuing their fight for justice.
The burial will take place after prayer sessions at Maili Tatu Stadium and at the family home in Kabuitu.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Sniper’s brother, Julius Muthee, urged residents of Meru and supporters nationwide to join them on the day of the funeral.
“As we prepare to lay our brother to rest, we remain hopeful that justice will prevail,” Muthee stated.
Five suspects have been charged with Sniper’s abduction and murder: Vincent Murithi, Kenneth Guantai, Bonface Kithinji, Christus Manyara, and Brian Mwenda.
They are currently facing trial in a Kiambu court. However, local leaders and residents believe the true masterminds behind the heinous act are yet to be identified and held accountable.
Igembe East MCA Titus Murithi reiterated the community’s demand for justice, emphasizing the need to prosecute those who financed and orchestrated the crime.
“We will not rest until every individual involved in Sniper’s murder is brought to book,” he declared.
Sniper’s death has left a lasting impact on his family and the Meru community.
His mother, Anne Kanjeru, revealed that the family continues to feel haunted by his spirit.
The family also expressed disappointment over unmet promises, including a house allegedly pledged by Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
