"Familia Imenidharau Sana" Nairobi Mum Laments After Being Rejected For Giving Birth To Child With Disability

In Kibera, Nairobi, Priscilla Ogema is facing a challenging situation. She was abandoned by her family because her son, Dominic, developed a disability that made her relatives label him as “unfit for the clan.”

After her mother passed away, Priscilla’s uncles asked her to leave her father’s compound, leaving her and her children with nowhere to turn.

Now, she is appealing for help to care for her children and support Dominic’s medical needs.

Priscilla shared her story, explaining that Dominic, who is now older, was not born with a disability.

When he was four years old, he developed a severe swelling in his throat. Doctors initially thought it was tonsillitis, a common throat infection, and treated him for it.

However, as time went on, the swelling continued to grow. It wasn’t until later that the family realized that Dominic’s condition was far more serious.

Over the years, the swelling not only worsened but also spread, affecting Dominic’s other joints.

This has caused him pain and difficulty with movement, particularly in one of his hands.

Doctors have recommended surgery to prevent further spreading and to reduce the swelling’s impact on his body.

Fortunately, cancer has been ruled out as a cause, which brought some relief to Priscilla.

However, without proper diagnosis and treatment, Dominic’s condition could continue to worsen, especially as the swelling grows larger and more painful in cold weather.

In addition to her son’s medical condition, Priscilla is struggling to provide for her entire family. She is not only responsible for her two children but also for her late sister’s three daughters.

Her sister had been supporting her family while working in Saudi Arabia but tragically passed away, leaving Priscilla with the additional responsibility of caring for her nieces.

Now, as the sole provider, she finds it difficult to afford her children’s school fees and Dominic’s medical bills.

Priscilla is appealing to well-wishers and kind-hearted Kenyans for assistance. Her primary goal is to raise enough money to cover Dominic’s surgery and ensure that all her children, including her nieces, can attend school.

She believes that with access to proper education and care, her children will have a chance for a better future despite their current hardships.
