Ex-Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua is reportedly planning a new political path, despite the challenges he faces after his impeachment.
Gachagua, who has been at the center of Kenya's political scene, was recently offered by former President Uhuru Kenyatta to join and help revive the struggling Jubilee Party.
However, Gachagua has turned down this offer and instead intends to form his own political party to continue advancing his agenda.
According to reports, Gachagua’s decision comes after his intense opposition to Uhuru's Jubilee Party during the 2022 General Election.
Gachagua ran alongside President William Ruto under the Kenya Kwanza alliance, which is opposed to the Jubilee Party that is now part of the Azimio coalition.
Despite Uhuru’s offer, which aimed at rebranding the Jubilee Party, Gachagua is more focused on creating a platform that aligns with his vision without any restrictions.
Political analysts believe Gachagua’s decision is strategic, considering his political future.
Macharia Munene, a political analyst, pointed out that if the court rules in Gachagua's favor in the impeachment case, he would want to take control of a new party.
This would allow him to establish a strong political presence, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region, where he has a significant following.
Gachagua’s decision also comes in the midst of growing tensions with the current government.
He has claimed that his security was withdrawn after he was accused of inciting rebellion against President Ruto’s leadership.
Gachagua allegedly faced criticism after a recent incident where Ruto was booed in a church service in Embu County.
This has sparked claims that powerful figures within the government want to limit Gachagua’s influence.
