Homa Bay: DCI arrest Several Suspects, Recover Stolen Police Uniforms And Ammunition From Them

Police in Rachuonyo South Sub-County, Homa Bay County, have recovered stolen police gear and ammunition, leading to the arrest of several suspects.

This operation began after reports emerged of people attempting to sell police equipment in Oyugis Town.

The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Kosele led the operation, starting with the arrest of two young men, Jeff Omondi, 18, and Nashon Odwar, 19.

Omondi was found with a jungle police hat, a pair of trousers, and two live rounds of ammunition. Odwar was in possession of an Administration Police (AP) jungle jacket and two live rounds of ammunition.

During questioning, Odwar escaped, but Omondi revealed that the stolen items came from an 18-year-old suspect, Samwel Otieno, who is still at large.

Acting on Omondi’s statement, the police visited Otieno’s family home and conducted a search at his grandfather’s house.

The search yielded a significant haul of police-related items. These included two G3 magazines, 41 live rounds of ammunition, three blank rounds, raincoats, military jungle boots, lanyards, and a Maasai sword.

Otieno’s grandfather, Mr. Jacob Okuku, told police that the items belonged to his son, APC Robin Ochieng Okuku, who serves as an Administration Police officer in Bomet County.

He accused his grandson, Samwel Otieno, of tampering with the items.

Following the discovery, both Mr. Okuku and Mrs. Grace Aroko, the AP officer’s wife, were arrested for further questioning.

Meanwhile, efforts to find Nashon Odwar were successful, and he was re-arrested. Police recovered the two live rounds of ammunition that were initially found on him.

Odwar admitted to selling an AP smoke jacket to a tuk-tuk driver in Oyugis for Ksh 500.

All suspects, including Omondi, Odwar, Mr. Okuku, and Mrs. Aroko, were taken to Kosele Police Station and are currently in custody.

Investigations are being conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Rachuonyo South to locate Samwel Otieno and recover any remaining stolen items.
