Kenya Met Issues Heavy Downpour Alert to 13 Nairobi Estates, Here's The List

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Nairobi and its surrounding areas, starting Tuesday, November 19, and continuing until Wednesday morning at 9:00 am. 

The forecast predicts that Nairobi will experience a mix of light to moderate rainfall, but some areas are expected to face heavy downpours that could disrupt daily activities.

Several parts of Nairobi are particularly at risk. Lang'ata, Embakasi East, West, and South are among the areas likely to experience heavy rain. 

Makadara, Kamukunji, and parts of Starehe are also expected to receive moderate to heavy downpours. 

Westlands, Roysambu, Ruaraka, Mathare, and Dagoretti North and South will also see significant rainfall. 

However, other parts of Lang'ata, Westlands, and Embakasi West will likely experience lighter rainfall.

Residents and motorists in these areas have been urged to take extra precautions due to the risk of flooding. 

Roads may become impassable, as seen in past instances of flooding in areas like Waiyaki Way and Parklands. 

The downpours may cause significant disruptions, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours. Drivers are advised to avoid flooded roads to prevent accidents or delays.

In addition to Nairobi, neighboring counties such as Kiambu, Kajiado, and Machakos are also expected to receive rainfall. 

The weather department has warned that these areas could experience heavy showers and storms, causing potential disruptions. 

Other regions across Kenya, including the Central Highlands, Rift Valley, and Western Kenya, will also experience rainfall, with occasional thunderstorms.

As the rains continue, temperatures in areas like the Central Highlands and Rift Valley are expected to drop, which may lead to cooler nights. 

The weather department has cautioned residents in these regions to be prepared for colder conditions. 

Similarly, parts of the Lake Victoria Basin, South-eastern Lowlands, and Coastal areas will also experience rainfall, contributing to the wet conditions across the country.

The public has been advised to stay updated on the weather forecast and take necessary steps to ensure their safety during this period of heavy rainfall. 

By following the weather department's advice and staying alert, people can minimize the risks posed by these heavy rains and avoid potential disruptions.
