Three police officers were rushed to Nairobi West Hospital after a shocking attack during a pursuit in Ngara, Nairobi, on Monday, November 25, 2024.
The officers were chasing a suspect believed to have stolen medicine from Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) and transported it to Ngara Medical Centre.
During the chase, a woman identified as Mororoi, aged 45, allegedly sprayed the officers with a chemical suspected to be sulphuric acid.
The attack left the officers, Tom Mbuku, Moses Lelei, and Joyce Otieno, with serious burn injuries on their faces and limbs.
In an attempt to escape, the suspect fled into a facility and locked herself inside, preventing the officers from entering.
The police quickly dispatched a second team to the scene. This team managed to arrest four people found inside the facility.
The suspects were identified as Mwaura Karumba, 60, Beatrice Kamba, 36, Faith Mboga, 22, and Rose Gitau, 46. However, it remains unclear if Mororoi, the primary suspect, was among those arrested.
Police also recovered five liters of a substance suspected to be sulphuric acid and a variety of stolen medicines from the facility. These items are now being held as evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Law enforcement officers are continuing their investigations to determine whether the stolen medicine and the acid attack are part of a larger criminal operation.
The incident has raised concerns about the increasing dangers faced by police officers while carrying out their duties.
The police have urged members of the public to assist in providing information that could lead to the arrest of all those involved in the crime.
They emphasized the importance of working together to improve safety and ensure that those responsible for such acts are held accountable.
