Nakuru Man Impersonating Prison Officer Lynched By Angry Gen Zs, Beaten To Death

In Nakuru West Sub-County, residents of Mogoon witnessed a tragic incident on Monday, November 4, after they discovered a group of men posing as police officers.

Four men were reportedly attempting to deceive locals while dressed in police uniforms, sparking anger among the community members.

Villagers quickly raised an alarm, leading to a violent confrontation with the suspected imposters.

One of the men was caught by the irate villagers and beaten to death, while another managed to escape with his life.

The remaining two suspects fled on foot, evading capture. The chaotic scene highlighted the extreme actions communities are sometimes willing to take to address perceived threats themselves, rather than waiting for law enforcement.

Nakuru Police Commander Michael Mwaura confirmed that the suspects were indeed impersonating police officers.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found police uniforms and handcuffs inside the suspects' vehicle, supporting claims that the group was masquerading as law enforcement.

Commander Mwaura condemned the mob action, urging residents to report suspicious activities to the police rather than taking matters into their own hands.

“We understand the frustration, but it’s important to let the authorities handle such situations,” he stated.

The incident in Mogoon sheds light on a worrying trend in Kenya where people impersonate police officers for criminal gain.

Just a few months prior, in September, a grieving family lost KSh 20,000 to a fraudster who pretended to have information about their missing loved one, a taxi driver named Victoria Wambua.

The suspect posed as a police officer, preying on the family’s vulnerability before eventually being exposed.

Similar cases have been reported across the country. In July, five individuals, including a real police officer, were arrested in Kitui while pretending to be members of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

They allegedly tried to extort money from a senior government official. Another recent case involved a woman in Busia who was arrested for wearing a General Service Unit (GSU) uniform and carrying an AK-47 rifle without any identification.
